Four police teams have been formed to investigate the August 11 violence in Bengaluru, the city police said, quoted ANI. On Tuesday night, three people were killed and many others were injured after an angry mob went on a rampage in D J Halli and adjoining areas over a social media post put out by PV Naveen, a relative of MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy.

Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the role of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) behind the mob violence has come to light and investigation will go deep into it. 

“As per the information gathered so far and video footage, most importantly the role of SDPI is coming to light. We are collecting more information regarding it, we are investigating deeply in this regard”, Bommai told reporters.

Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said the government was also considering banning SDPI, four of whose members are among the over 140 arrested in connection with the violence on Tuesday night.

SDPI on Wednesday denied its role in the violence and had blamed police inaction.

On Wednesday, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, six companies of the Central Reserve Police Force are being dispatched to the violence-hit areas of Bengaluru, PTI reported. He also announced the deployment of the Rapid Action Force

Section 144 was imposed in the area on the night of violence, which has been extended till 6:00 am on August 15. A total of 147 people have been arrested by the police so far, while many others have been detained for the interrogation. 

The government has termed the violence as a “well-planned act.”
