Frustrated by the ever-rising unemployment rate in India, the youth, it seems, has taken to Twitter to make their voices heard. The employment issue has once again taken the front seat on Twitter, prompting other social media platforms to see similar contents float around in the web. This time ‘#modi_rojgaar_do’ has been trending on Twitter for a couple of days now. But why is it trending and why is the Opposition joining the bandwagon.
In 2019, the CGL Tier-2 examination was announced. It was conducted in three phases in November 2020, November 15, 16 and 18. The results of which were released on February 19, saw students not making the cut and failing to qualify. Those opposing the exam results say that the paper on November 18 was easy and the students scored quite well. Many had scored up to 200 marks in the examination. But when the result was announced, there was no selection of students. They say that the selection process was dubious and no proper clarification has made about the process.
According to Lallantop, a student said that SSC has been continuously reducing seats and does not remove the waiting list. Often there’s a waiting list but it’s absence in the CGL examination angered the students.
Earlier in December, 2020, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) said that India’s unemployment rate rose to 9.1%, highest since the beginning of India’s recovery from the lockdown in June. Unemployment rate stayed at 10.99% in June 2020. The unemployment rate climbed up to 8.4% in the first week, then to 9.9% and 10.1% in the following two weeks before moderating to 9.5% in the last week.
