We are in the age of social media, even though it feels like
it’s easy to know where your friends are and what they’re up to it’s sometimes
better to physically go and meet them. From the first high school reunion to
the last December wedding, a quick coffee catch-up to a boozy brunch with old
friends
is always a good idea. As we celebrate friendship day, it
might be a great time to catch up with a school friend or childhood buddy.

The most important question before meeting an old friend is how
to get back into the flow and not make it awkward.

Below are a few tips you can
implement to not make things unpleasant:

Don’t make them uncomfortable rather try to be more
understanding towards their life. Avoid saying, “You don’t have time for your
friends anymore” (yaar tere paas kaha time hai dosto ke liye). You may never
know what has been going on with their lives. Try to be sweet and show a little
love, rather than being blunt and immature.

The most common thing people tend to say when they meet
someone after a long-time is “You’ve forgotten me” (Tu toh bhul hi gya hai
hume). Instead of saying that try to use phrases like “It’s been forever!”
which don’t sound impolite and harsh.

Another thing that almost everyone knowingly or unknowingly
communicates is “You have new friends now” (naye dost ban gye tere). Instead
say, “We should get together sometime” or “We should get coffee soon.”

Many
people often get emotional when they meet their old friends, but it’s always
good to have fun
rather than complaining about why they have been busy or why they
don’t meet regularly. Above all, don’t try too hard. The best conversation is
one where you keep things fresh and spontaneous.

As the saying goes, ‘Old is gold’ always try to re-connect with
your old friends/colleagues because they are your family and strength.

Especially
on occasions like ‘Friendship Day’ is the best time to catch up with an old
friend/buddy and talk for hours about all the gossips, ups and downs,
achievements you’ve been waiting forever to share with them.
