India have been put on the brink of being knocked out of the Asia Cup 2022 after tasting defeat in two consecutive matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4. Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock

Rohit Sharma was back in form in the match and helped anchor India’s innings in a crucial time when Virat Kohli lost his wicket for a duck. Sharma scored a 41-ball 72 in the match, with his innings being laden with five boundaries and four sixes.

India’s middle-order fails again

The middle order has been a bane for the defending Asia Cup champions throughout the entire tournament, with the Sri Lanka match proving to be no exception. While Suryakumar Yadav did put up a fighting 29-ball 34, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya failed once again to make significant contributions to India’s total, scoring 17 runs each. Deepak Hooda contributed a meagre three runs.

Sri Lankan openers shine

Sri Lankan openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners in the encounter, each scoring half-centuries and providing the subsequent batters with a solid ground to carve their win on.

Yuzvendra Chahal was back in action in the match, which was his first in the ongoing tournament. He proved to be India’s most successful bowler in the match, taking three wickets in four overs.

Bhuvi goes for 14 runs in 19th

The 19th over proved to be the nail in the coffin of India’s hopes. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was smashed for 14 runs. Nissanka’s boundaries proved to be costly for India, leaving only seven runs to be fetched in the final over.
