Following their emphatic win against South Korea in the FIFA World Cup 2022, Brazil players paid their respect to Pele who is admitted to a hospital in Sao Paulo and is receiving treatment for colon cancer and respiratory illness from a Covid 19 infection.

In order to pay their respect to the Brazilian legend and the three-time World Cup winner, the players walked the pitch with a huge banner that said “Pele” and contained a picture of the great man.

It was earlier reported that the 82-year-old is not responding to chemotherapy and is receiving palliative care at the hospital.

However, Pele’s daughter denied the report saying that the octagenarian is in the hospital mainly for the respiratory illness from Covid 19. She assured the well-wished that Pele will “come home” soon.

She said that Pele “is sick, he is elderly, but at this point he is hospitalized for a lung infection.”

“And when he gets better, he’ll come home,” she continued, adding, “We are not saying goodbye in the hospital. It’s really unfair that they’re saying he’s at the terminal stage. It’s not that, believe us.”

After the news of him receiving ‘palliative care’ started circulating on social media, fans were upset anticipating bad news while the greatest football tournament on the planet is going on. However, Pele had himself issued a statement earlier saying that he is not in death bed and will watch Brazil in the World Cup.

“I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup too. Thank you so much for everything,” he said in the statement.
