Team India defeated South Africa in the first T20I by eight wickets on Wednesday, September 28 at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Both Indian batting and bowling lineup performed exceptionally, as KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav registered half-centuries while Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar combined to claim five wickets.

However, while India captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck, he still managed to surpass former captain MS Dhoni to script a new record. The 35-year-old overtook Dhoni’s record of most T20I matches won in a calendar year.

Rohit also surpassed Virat Kohli’s winning percentage in T20I matches as captain, who has a winning rate of 64.58%. As for the world, Asgar Stanikzhai of Afghanistan (81.73%) has a better winning percentage than Rohit Sharma among players who have captained 20 or more T20I matches in their career.
