Herbert, later in the game, threw a 15-yard pass to wide receiver Mike Williams for another touchdown. The pass gave the Chargers a 17-7 lead over the Chiefs to open the second half.

The Los Angeles Chargers are playing without wide receiver Keenan Allen, who was declared out for Thursday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs because of a hamstring injury.

Allen sustained the injury during the first half of Sunday’s 24-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Allen said he felt a slight pull and the hamstring tightened after he planted his foot to the turf during the second quarter. Despite only seeing 22 snaps, he led the Chargers with 66 receiving yards and was tied for the lead in catches with four.

Herbert has a chance to join Craig Morton and Ken Anderson as the only QBs to win their first three starts at the Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

“Every year he seems to get better,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “He’s very smart. He understands where to go with the ball, so you know he’s got a real good grasp of the offense. And he’s accurate. He does a nice job and that’s not getting any worse as he goes, he’ll just keep polishing that moving ahead. The experience is everything now.”
