The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24 in the first game of week 2 of the 2022 NFL season on Thursday night, September 15. The defenses of both teams put up an inspiring performance, however, it was the hosts who reigned supreme and came out victorious.

The Kansas City Chiefs began the match underwhelmingly and were trailing for the majority of the match. They conceded the first points and were able to score their first only in the second quarter. However, as the game progressed, the Chiefs’ defense picked up form, as did their opponents.

The Chiefs registered a total of 73 tackles, 46 of which were made by individual players. They also registered 2 sacks, lost 4 tackles and defended 6 passes. The Chiefs’ defense made 8 hits on the opposing quarterback and scored 1 touchdown.

Willie Gay was the most impressive player in the Chiefs’ defense. The 24-year-old linebacker registered a total of 11 tackles, 6 of which were individual and assisted in 5. However, also lost 2 tackles, 50% of the team’s total. He also made 1 hit on the opposing quarterback.

Willie, along with Nick Bolton, were the only Chiefs players to have 10 or more tackles against the Chargers. Chris Jones and Frank Clark were also impressive in the hosts’ defense, who made a total of 3 hits on the opposing quarterback.

On the other hand, the visitors Los Angeles Chargers recorded 52 total tackles, 34 of which were made by individual players and 1 sack. They also lost 2 tackles, defended 3 passes and made 5 hits on the opposing quarterback.

Derwin James Jr led the Chargers’ defense from the front. He made a total of 9 tackles, 6 of which were individual and lost in only one. James, along with Drue Tranquill and JC Jackson were the only visiting players to register more than 5 tackles. Drue Tranquill, Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Kyle Van Noy made the 1 hit each on the opposing quarterback.
