He also has another record to his name. The skipper is also the only Indian to compete in seven Asia Cup tournaments. Since 2008, Rohit has participated in every Asia Cup competition. In the absence of the team’s then-captain Virat Kohli, he also guided India to victory in the ODI format in 2018.

Rohit Sharma already holds the record of scoring the most runs in T20I. Since 2007, the batter has amassed 3620 runs in the 128 innings he has batted. He averages 32 in the format of the game and has scored with a strike rate of over 140.

In the game against Sri Lanka, India has set a target of 174 runs. Rohit excelled right away scoring 72 off 41 runs. After India lost the early wickets of KL Rahul (6) and Virat Kohli (7), he batted at a different level to dramatically change the situation. When he was out with nearly eight overs remaining, the score was 110/3. However, the final acceleration did not come as the Men in Blue continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Shehan Madushanka was Sri Lanka’s star, both with the new and the old ball.

In the second innings of the game, the Indian bowling was tore apart by Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, who stitched a 97-run first wicket partnership. Just when it looked that India has lost the match, Yuzvendra Chahal’s twin strikes brought India back into the game.

However, the Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa continued to score boundaries and ultimately took them over the line.
