Indian star batter Suryakumar Yadav made headlines on Wednesday, November 2, when he became the no.1 ranked batsman in ICC’s T20I rankings. Coincidentally, Yadav was also part of the Indian team on Wednesday that faced Bangladesh in their fourth T20 World Cup 2022 match at the Adelaide Oval in Australia.

Yadav climbed to the top of the ICC batting rankings with 863 points, overtaking Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan in the second spot. The list also features former India captain Virat Kohli inside the top 10, who has 638 points and is occupying the 10th spot.

Suryakumar Yadav is followed by Mohammad Rizwan, Devon Conway of New Zealand, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and South Africa’s Aiden Markram in the following spots.

Other Indian batters on the list are Rohit Sharma (15th), KL Rahul (22), Ishan Kishan (34) and Shreyas Iyer (45). However, Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s most prolific batter across all formats in recent years, having broken several records on his way.

He has also been one of the best batters in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far, having scored 68 runs against South Africa, an undefeated 51 against the Netherlands and 15 runs against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, no Indian player could make it to the top 10 of the ICC T20I bowling rankings. The best-ranked Indian bowler in the latest ranking was Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 649 points in 11th place. However, Hardik Pandya remained at the third spot of the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings, following Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi in the top two places.

Suryakumar Yadav is also close to making a new T20I record soon. He needs only 22 more runs in the shortest format of the game to score 1,000 T20I runs in a calendar year, which will also make him the second batter since Mohammad Rizwan in 2021 to achieve the feat.
