Amazon Quiz: The airport in which city was recently renamed after Bhagat Singh?

A) Patiala

B) Ludhiana

C) Amritsar

D) Chandigarh

Answer: Chandigarh

All in all, Chandigarh is a combination of a city, a district and a union territory. It serves as the joint capital of the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. The city is located only 260 km from the capital city of New Delhi.

In fact, the city is regarded as one of the earliest planned cities in post-Independence India. But that’s not all, the city is well regarded for both its architecture and its urban design. It was first designed by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier. As a result, many of the government buildings which exist today, are part of the architect’s legacy.

As a result, Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2016. Since the area was classified as the capital of Haryana and Bihar, the region has grown considerably and has helped the two satellite cities of  Mohali and Panchakula grow exponentially. This has led to the creation of the “tri-city”, which has a population of over 1, 611, 770.

That is not all however. Chandigarh has one of the highest per capita incomes in the country in addition to having one of the highest Human Development Indexes. Part of the reason is that the the government is the major employer in Chandigarh, considerning that threr governments have set up base there.
