A video of BBC presenter Huw Edwards delving into journalistic values that the broadcaster triumphs over as well as the best way to protect minors in a news segment went viral after the corporation was hit with a scandal over the weekend.

The scandal in question accused an unidentified BBC presenter of paying a teen over $44,000 for explicit photos. The video was unrelated to the scandal in any way as it simply spoke about the journalistic policies championed by BBC. Even so, Edwards was trolled online for the video.

“One note of caution, always be careful. It is important to check all the sources. They might not be giving you the full picture. Or they might have made, you know, an innocent mistake. So you need to be careful. Only use those sources that you trust. Are they likely to have accurate information in the story? How much checking do you need to do? Depends on the type of source. But it’s usually a good idea to check the information with at least two different sources. That’s our policy. So we have truth and accuracy – two of the BBC’s basic news values. The audience needs to trust you. And that depends on you being accurate,” he said.

He also mentioned one more bit of advice. “To protect people under the age of 18, you must only use their first names in reports, never use surnames. That’s a good policy too.”

Incidentally, Huw Edwards also went viral on Twitter after an explicit Snapchat video of him got leaked online.

The video allegedly showed his buttocks was leaked, after which the presenter seems to have deleted his Instagram account. When one clicks on his handle, a blank page appears with the message, “Sorry, this page isn’t available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.”

The video apparently showed Edwards Facetiming with someone. However, a number of unconfirmed reports suggested that the video, in question, was AI generated.
