Madeleine McCann’s sister Amelie lit a candle in her memory tonight as she joined her parents and well-wishers on the 16th anniversary of her disappearance. “It’s nice that everyone is here together but it’s a sad occasion,” she said.
Madeleine went missing in May 2007 while her family was on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal. She was three years old.

Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann went for dinner with friends at a restaurant complex and Madeleine and her younger twin siblings, Amelie and Sean, were put to bed in an apartment around 100m away and left unattended.

When Kate returned to the at 10 PM to find Maddie was missing. Her cot was empty but her blanket and a cuddly toy were there. The police were immediately informed and the complex was searched for any sign of the 3-year-old.

Who are Amelie and Sean?
Amelie is applying to go to university and was seen for the first time since she was a toddler. She is 18 years old. She was warmly welcomed along with Kate and Gerry and locals and supports during an informal prayer meeting in their home village of Rothley, Leicestershire. The young girl with blonde hair was dressed in navy leggings, trainers, and a cream puffa jacket.
Amelie’s twin brother Sean did not attend.
Amelie lit a candle for Maddie and other missing kids at the war memorial where photos of her sister adorned the black railing. A lantern of hope still glows around the clock for her.
Madeleine’s parents have not had any more children since she went missing in 2007. Kate and Gerry have been relentless in their efforts to find her. In the 15 years, a convicted child abuser, Christian B, was named as the official suspect.
