Sambit Patra, an Indian politician, was born on December 13, 1974. He now chairs the department of tourism and has been the national spokeswoman for the Bharatiya Janata Party since 2014. In 2017, the board of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) selected him as an independent director. Patra was also chosen to lead the India Tourism Development Corporation on November 30, 2021.
Sambit Patra on December 13, 1974, in Bokaro Steel City which is now a part of Bokaro district of the state of Jharkhand. He attended the Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro for his elementary and middle school education. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla, Sambalpur, Odisha in 1997 and his Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery from the Shri Ramachandra Bhanj Medical College in Cuttack, Utkal University, in 2002. He joined Hindurav Hospital as a Medical Officer after passing the UPSC Combined Medical Services exam in 2003.
Patra’s political career started in 2010 when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party as a spokesperson for its Delhi unit. When the BJP’s candidate from Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate lost the municipal election in 2012, Patra resigned from his job and entered politics full-time. Sambit Patra ran for the BJP and appeared on national television during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections campaign. Patra became the BJP’s national spokesperson after the party won the election. He was appointed as an unofficial director of ONGC in 2017 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). In the 2019 Indian general election, Pinaki Misra of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) defeated Sambit Patra by 11,800 votes for the Puri Lok Sabha seat.
