Lizzo offers some bits of wisdom for Liam Payne.

In a TikTok video aired over the weekend, the “About Damn Time” singer shared her thoughts on a variety of popular pop culture topics, including why she hasn’t seen Stranger Things Season 4 and someone tossing cake at the Mona Lisa.

Lizzo, 34, responded to Payne’s recent claim that Simon Cowell established One Direction with him at the centre during their tenure on The X Factor at one point in the video.

“From what I’ve heard, part of the reason One Direction was made was because of Simon’s promise to me,” Payne, 28, stated this on a recent edition of Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast.

“So he kind of started with my face and worked out around the rest,” the “Strip That Down” singer explained. “I’ve never told this story before.”

Lizzo responded to his statements on TikTok, saying, “I don’t know who lied to that poor boy, but he was not the frontman.”

According to a Rolling Stone interview with Cowell, 62, done in 2012 for a projected One Direction cover story but not published until 2020, Payne auditioned for The X Factor once before joining the group and gained early encouragement from the show’s creator.

“Well, I’d auditioned him before on The X Factor, when he was 14, and he didn’t make it. Funnily enough, he didn’t have much support from the other judges, but I’d always backed him,” Cowell told the publication. “And then he didn’t quite make it because he was too young the first time.”

“And then when he came back the second time, I was really proud of him because he really made an effort and he wanted to prove a point — and he was good when he came back and did his audition,” the former American Idol judge continued. “And then I was gutted during the phase I described earlier on, when he just fell apart on this particular song.”

“But I always knew that with confidence he would be a valuable member of this band, so I had no hesitation in bringing him back,” Cowell added.

Since all the members of the boy-band were vocal artists, no particular frontman was ever officially identified.

Fans of One Direction were however outraged when Payne claimed in this very podcast that his 2017 debut solo track, “Strip That Down “outsold everyone in the band ” They couldn’t believe he’d say something so ridiculous. They claim they can simply look it up online to check if he “outsold”, say, Harry Styles‘ CDs at the time.

They also reminded Payne that his 2019 album, “LP1,” debuted at No. 111 on the Billboard 200 chart.

His fellow band mates – Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles have had chart hit albums and singles, and have also sold more records than him.
