Social Media giant Facebook on Monday said it is buying a startup named ‘Kustomer’ that specialises in helping businesses interact with customers online, reported AFP.

Facebook’s latest acquisition comes as it continues to weave e-commerce into offerings, particularly with its WhatsApp and Messenger messaging services.

According to WhatsApp chief operating officer Matt Idema and Facebook vice president of business products Dan Levy, over 175 million people contact businesses via WhatsApp daily, and the number is growing.

Kustomer chief executive Brad Birnbaum said, “With our complementary capabilities, we will be able to help more people benefit from customer service that is faster, richer and available whenever and however they need it — via phone, email, text, web chat or messaging.”

He added, “In particular, we look forward to enhance the messaging experience, which is one of the fastest growing ways for people and businesses to engage.”

New-York based Kustomer will continue to service its existing clients after co-founders Birnbaum and Jeremy Suriel and the rest of the startup’s team will become part of Facebook.

The company is responsible for providing software tools to help business representatives better tend to customer queries or concerns. According to Idema and Levy, Facebook will provide resources for five-year-old Kustomer to innovate and grow.

The Facebook and WhatsApp executives said, “That way, more people will benefit from customer service that is faster, richer and available whenever and however they need it.”

Financial terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed and need to be approved by regulators.
