Premiering in 2016, the Netflix series The Crown has portrayed the Royal family through several time periods. It started in the late 1940s and early 1950s with Queen Elizabeth ll and Prince Philip%u2019s marriage and early careers in season 1 followed by the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles in season 4. As for season 5, it expected to delve into the early 1990s %u2014 a hugely turbulent period for the Royal Family as it witnessed the separation of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

However, even after the insane popularity, the makers of the show have decided to end if after the sixth season. The executive producer of The Crown has explained in an interview with Broadcast Now that the hit Netflix series will come to an end after six seasons.

%u201CPeter has said it very articulately, that he simply can%u2019t write something unless there has been time to gain a proper perspective,%u201D said producer Suzanne Mackie.
She continued, %u201CAnd I think he%u2019s always felt 10 years is the minimum amount of time that he can see something in a historical context, to allow him to really understand it. I don%u2019t think he%u2019ll deviate from that.%u201D

%u201CWe all know these stories, but what Peter does so brilliantly is get underneath that, and understand the landscape in a more nuanced, complex, surprising way. The minute he starts trying to do that sooner, it will inevitably feel contrived or artificial. So, although this has been an absolute career highlight for me, it will absolutely be time to move on,%u201D Mackie further added.

Previously it was announced that The Crown would end after the fifth season, however, show creator Peter Morgan announced last year in July that he had changed his mind and decided to end the hit series after season six.

%u201CAs we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day %u2013 it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail,%u201D Morgan told ANI.
